This Braille typewriter was used by Judith A. Redlich when she entered kindergarten. A premature baby, Judy was blinded by the high oxygen levels in the incubator in which she was kept. She was the first blind child in the nation integrated into regular schools, succeeding in part because each summer her mother translated all her books into Braille so she would be ready for school in the fall.
